Hales’ Happenings
What I’ve been up to
My spring break plans were foiled by a good ole case of the flu. I lived on the couch for three days straight half watching The Twilight Saga and Good Will Hunting (those are my nostalgic sick day movies, I don’t make the rules), half asleep and wishfully hoping my mom would show up with a Sprite and some sympathy (she didn’t).
Tom bought himself a fixer-upper and has some big plans to remodel it into the perfect friend group oasis. We took “break in the new home” literally and had ourselves a little (big) demolition party.
Easter weekend was really sweet, and not only because it included a giant stack of lemon ricotta pancakes (although that helped). Mom joined me for a celebratory Easter service on Sunday morning and Ally was my date to The Wldlfe and Knox concert that evening. Jesus is risen and Knox Morris was rizzin’!! Okay, I’m done with dad jokes (for now).
I got invited to be on two trivia teams this month, both of which I contributed absolutely nothing to. It’s so flattering to be the personality invite.
I frequented the North Loop quite a bit this month! I attended DJ’s new apartment’s wine night as an honorary resident, treated myself to a facial at Face Foundrie, got set up on a blind friendship coffee date (we hit it off, she’s the coolest), and indulged in a couple of nice dinners at Dario and Porzana with great company. New friends, expensive moisturizers, and handmade pasta- this is my favorite form of self-care.
Subtle signs of spring are making me smile. The earth is turning deeper shades of green and daylight seems to be lingering longer. Happy dogs are bobbing their heads out of car windows again and it smells like a warm mid-day rain. We’re alive again, you guys!

What I’ve been loving
Welcome to Wrexham on Hulu- a heartwarming sports docuseries about the failing soccer… I mean football club that Ryan Reynolds bought. A good underdog story that makes it impossible not to fall in love with this tight-knit Welsh community.
Corner Coffee breakfast sammy- everything bagel. fluffy eggs. cheese. thick bacon. more cheese. grilled to perfection. never not been good.
Debbii Dawson- current girl crush who is way too cool to be from MN but we’ll claim her! Saw her open at a concert and thought to myself “when would I ever listen to this?”. The answer is all. the. time. Shower, taking a drive, making dinner, doing dishes, dancing around the house with the windows open. Obsessed.
My neighbors- couldn’t live in community with better humans. They’re the type to leave sweet treats at your door, ring the doorbell to ask if you want to say goodbye to their special family tree that needs to be cut down, text “patio beer in 10?”, swing by unexpectedly with coffee in hand just because, and organize group bike rides behind a giant rolling stereo. How blessed am I?

Things I Googled This Month
Simultaneously hilarious and humbling
“snake pechuga sotol”- an ingredient in the drink I had at Flora Room. The host initially piqued my interest by telling me they “hung rattlesnakes from the ceiling to collect their juices”. Apparently rattlesnake juice pairs verrry well with a smoky manhattan, who knew.
“what is bbl”- I live under a rock.
“why is Katy Perry going to space?”- one of the few moments I wish I had the gram. I bet the internet ate this up and spit out some great memes.
“jai alai”- the answer to an impossible trivia question about a sport that plays with a ball that can reach speeds up to 200mph.
“The Funnies”
My mom mails me newspaper comic clippings like best friends dm each other memes…
Catch you next month!
Much love <3
